I heard there was a secret chord
— Leonard Cohen
All the apparently simple drills in the book Bare Metal Minimality are multi-functional. They are like the light and compact Swiss Army knife, which packs all kinds of tools into a keychain appendage.
For example, I presented the ZMQ37 Tai Chi heel kick in the book, with specific emphasis on the foundational aspects: grounding and gapping (see the book for what is gapping).
But that’s far from how deep the rabbit hole can go on this drill. As a kick, you naturally assume that it primarily works on foundational attributes. But with a small mental-physical adjustment, energetic augmentation radically shifts to ARM CHARGING.
When you saw the photo of Professor Zheng performing the Tai Chi heel kick above, you probably felt "Well, that’s kinda vanilla...” But appearances deceive. In this post I’ll coach you the small adjustment that turns the effect of this drill upside down.
Here’s me doing the same, again in vanilla base mode:
It’s fine to drill it this way, just follow the BMM book. But there can be more to it.
