[In this post I suggest an easy mental trick to maintain and augment the peak-strike energy charge throughout an entire sequence of Crushing reps, without the typical energy drop and need to restart elevate the power curve with each new rep of Crush.]
From reader mails I see that a number of people are working with Xingyiquan’s Crushing technique, which I’ve often emphasized as foundational for XYQ internal strike training.
I’ve already exhaustively covered the whole physical and energetic protocol for Crushing in several books (Infusion, AXE) and also in this Substack. There are two modes, long and short. Long mode is where the IP tracks tangibly from your launching foot/leg up through your back, head, down front to chest, out through striking arm/fist, and ending in dantian just a fractional pico-second past the strike instant. Short mode is where you still have a circular cycle like long mode, however it’s circumscribed in feeling as a tight round trip from dantian and back to dantian quickly, without feeling the leg upsurge or the head pass through, just dantian to chest to fist to dantian - almost all at once. Both modes are worth playing with, so I’ll leave you to it.
However, sometimes people have a little trouble actually feeling - tangibly, not as some mental visualization or metaphorical concept - the IP energy full infusing and packing your arm and fist at the moment of strike. I have a good fix you can use to generate the right state in the beginning.
